Entry Requirements:

Learners must have already achieved the QQI Level 5 award in Healthcare Support 5M4339, Nursing Studies 5M4349, Health Service Skills 5M3782 or equivalent.

No prior skills, knowledge or competence in the award subject matter will be required of the learner for successful entry to the programme; but learners will be expected to have a minimum of Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard of education or equivalent and/or experience.  Proficiency in English language is required, together with a strong interest in (subject).
Learners whose first language is not English will be required to provide proof of proficiency in the English language through satisfactory performance on an internationally recognised test (e.g. IELTS 5.5) or other similar English Language qualifications.

Progressive College are committed to providing equal access to education and equal opportunities for mature students (23 years +).  Mature applicants do not need to match school-leavers in terms of academic achievement, provided there is evidence of the ability to pursue and benefit from the course, but candidates must be 23 years of age or over on the 1st January of the year of entry to their programme of study.  Mature students must also have proficiency in the English language.

Work Experience Requirements:

Learners must complete 120 hours’ work experience in a suitable healthcare setting which might be a nursing home, hospital or daycare centre. If already employed in a healthcare setting the work experience tasks may be carried out in that environment. Students may need to complete a patient moving and handling course and basic first aid responder course prior to starting their work placement.

Alternative assessments are in place to facilitate students who are unable to find placement due to current L5 COVID19 restrictions.
